City of Aventura

The City of Aventura is located in Miami-Dade County and according to 2005 Census estimates, is home to 29,391 residents.  Aventura was incorporated in 1995 and is a young, vibrant, full-service municipality with a diverse demographic base and is recognized internationally as a premier location in which to live, shop and play.  Aventura was named after the first group of condominium developments in the area and comes from the Spanish word adventure.  Aventura is 3.2 square miles located on the Intracoastal Waterway in northeast Miami-Dade County and is conveniently located between two major South Florida airports and two of the largest and most popular seaports in the world.

Aventura is an upscale condo community with some of South Florida's best-known large-scale condominium projects.  It is also home to one of South Florida's premier malls, Aventura Mall.  Located in the middle of the City at 2.3 million square feet, Aventura Mall is one of South Florida's top malls featuring major department stores and over 250 specialty stores and dining options.

Since the City's incorporation millions of dollars have been spent on infrastructure improvements including streets, sidewalks, lighting, park development, beautification projects, drainage, pedestrian and safety improvements.  Some of these improvements include:
  • a state-of-the-art Government Center which provides a one-stop-shop for it's residents and houses all governmental operations including Commission Chambers, Police Station and administrative offices.
  • a Community/Recreation Center situated on 2.8 acres of land in a park like setting on the waterfront.  This 25,000 square foot facility includes a gym, meeting rooms, computer lab, exercise and aerobic facilities.
  • the first municipal-run charter school in Miami-Dade County.  In order to address the growing number of families with school age children, the City Commission chose to take an aggressive approach to meet its changing demographics.  Doors opened to the Aventura City of Excellence School in the Fall of 2003.  The school is located adjacent to the Community Recreation Center.  The 45,000 square foot state-of-the-art school serves 900 Aventura schoolchildren from kindergarten to 8th grade.
Recently the City of Aventura has adopted several initiatives aimed at reinforcing a strong sense of community.  With the building of the Charter School in 2003, the Community Recreation Center, Founders Park and Waterways Park Expansion, the City continues to grow and progress.
